IT MAY BE A COLLEGE TOWN, but the music scene has always been the heartbeat of downtown Athens. In September, the city launched a special walking tour to celebrate a musical history that spans genres and generations.
The tour follows a 2-square-block section of the city that passes such iconic venues as the Georgia Theatre and the 40 Watt Club. As you stroll past each plaque, a mobile app expands the experience by sharing specific sights and sounds associated with each honoree, including the B-52s, R.E.M. and Widespread Panic, just to name a few.
