After years of working in search & rescue, Alexander Bryant realized that many of the missions he led could have been avoided if those he set out to rescue had been armed with better knowledge about the Great Outdoors. In an effort to empower more people to tackle the wilderness with wisdom, Bryant founded SARCRAFT, a company devoted to teaching outdoor skills. SARCRAFT’s instruction runs the gamut of topics like navigation, sheltering, firecraft, survival, preparedness and general outdoor competency, catering to both novices who are just getting started in outdoor exploration and more experienced enthusiasts looking to hone their skills. Courses like Bushcraft Essentials and Wilderness First Aid take place on the SARCRAFT family’s 70-acre property in Waleska, making it possible to simulate wild experiences in a safe environment. Sign up with an adventurous friend or take the family—many SARCRAFT courses are perfect for introducing kids ages 12 and up to outdoor adventure. Visit sarcraft.com.
