There’s something unexpected about discovering one of the largest nonprofit art galleries in the United States tucked inside a shopping mall. But that’s exactly the kind of pleasant surprise that awaits visitors to The Scene Art Gallery at North Point Mall in Alpharetta — and if the crowds are any indication, the surprise is a welcome one.
Sprawling across more than 11,000 square feet on the mall’s second level, The Scene is far more than a gallery. It is a creative ecosystem — part exhibition hall, part studio, part community gathering place — and it has quickly become one of the most dynamic arts destinations in North Georgia. Founded in 2023 and operated by the Alpha Arts Guild, a 501(c)(3) cultural arts organization, The Scene was built on a singular mission: to support Georgia-based artists, connect them with buyers and collectors, and strengthen the cultural voice of the broader community.
Where Art Reigns
“We exist to promote and sell local art by local artists,” the gallery declares, and a walk through its 5,000-square-foot juried exhibition space makes that commitment abundantly clear. Paintings, photographs, sculptures and mixed-media works line the walls in a rotating collection that reflects the remarkable diversity of Georgia’s artistic community. The gallery draws more than 50 visitors daily — a testament to both its location and its programming — and the energy inside feels less like a hushed museum and more like a living conversation between artists and the people who love their work.
June Event: Architectural Art
This summer, The Scene has curated an ambitious lineup of themed Spotlight Shows, each opening on the third Saturday of the month with a festive public reception — family-friendly evenings complete with light bites, music and freshly juried work by Alpha Arts Guild members. The season kicks off June 20 with “Built Spaces: A Study in Architectural Art,” an exhibition that promises to explore the geometry, grandeur and quiet drama of the built world through the eyes of Georgia artists. Whether rendered in paint, photography or mixed media, architecture as subject matter tends to stop viewers in their tracks — and this show looks to be no exception.
July Event: A Study in Illumination
July 18 brings “Lumen: A Study in Illumination,” a show centered on light itself — the way it falls, filters and transforms everything it touches. It’s a theme that invites extraordinary range, from sun-drenched landscapes to candlelit interiors to the electric glow of a city at night, and the gallery’s spacious walls will give artists room to let their interpretations breathe.
August Event: Black and White
In August, the series closes with a striking contrast: “Black and White,” an exhibition featuring bold, sharp and striking works stripped of color entirely. Few creative constraints push artists further than this one, and the results — when done well — are nothing short of arresting.
Mark Your Calendar: Open House Spotlight Show
Central to the gallery experience is the monthly Open House Spotlight Show format itself, which has become a beloved fixture on Alpharetta’s social calendar. Summer Receptions run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month and are open to the public — no tickets, no pretense, just great art and good company. It is the kind of evening that turns first-time visitors into regulars. The gallery’s presence extends beyond North Point Mall. A second exhibition corridor runs through The Avalon, Alpharetta’s upscale outdoor shopping and dining destination.
For artists, The Scene offers something rare: a professional retail environment in a high-traffic shopping destination, with juried wall consignment space, strategic marketing support and a built-in community of fellow creatives. Membership in the Alpha Arts Guild costs $30 a year and opens the door to exhibition opportunities, workshops and a network of like-minded Georgia artists. The guild welcomes ongoing applications from artists seeking wall space — a juried process that ensures the quality and cohesion visitors have come to expect.
Just Getting Bigger and Better
The gallery’s footprint also is growing. In 2026, The Scene is expanding its studio space to more than 5,500 square feet dedicated to workshops, open studios and hands-on creative experiences — further cementing its role as a regional arts hub rather than simply a place to hang paintings. The event space, which accommodates up to 200 guests, has already made the gallery a sought-after venue for private gatherings where the art itself becomes part of the atmosphere.
It is, in the truest sense, a gallery built for people — for the artist looking for their first real audience, for the collector discovering someone new, for the family strolling through the mall on a Saturday afternoon who stumbles into something unexpectedly beautiful.
