In these uncertain times, about the only certainty is the appearance of spring blossoms and wildflowers, both in abundance right now at Hamilton Gardens. Along with the blooms, the spring Garden gift is a wonderful exhibit of local art, scattered throughout the property. Artist/sculptor Ron Salzar donated three pieces of his magnificent work to the Gardens several years ago and they are pleased to honor him this year for his contribution. Another local artist/sculptor, Gregg Quick, known for his larger-than-life metal bug sculptures, has four pieces on permanent display. Enjoy observing the working waterwheel, a fixture in the Gardens. The original wheel was built by local craftsman Carl Cloer and was totally rebuilt in 2019 by Bob and Greg Cloer. And don’t skip a visit to Ellewassee, the garden elephant, courtesy of Young Harris College Art Department. Find all of these as you engage in the Art in The Garden Treasure Hunt.
As you stroll along the garden paths enjoying the beauty of spring, don’t be surprised if you encounter one of their local Plein Air painters working to capture that special bloom on canvas. These artists may be individual painters, or members of the Plein Air Painters of Hiawassee. Be mindful of the social distancing mandates and give them plenty of space to work in safety.
Spring is a great time for Towns County residents to get acquainted (or reacquainted) with this local botanical treasure. It is the largest rhododendron collection in the southeast and contains varieties of plants found nowhere else. Bloom season is just beginning and will continue until mid-May, with the annual plant sale of native azaleas and rhododendrons beginning May 2.

There are no services available at the Gardens at this time, so plan ahead for restrooms and water. Dogs are not permitted on Garden property.
