Geology Hike

Event Details

Geologist John Johnston will lead this 2-mile hike identifying rocks and explaining how they were formed. There will be a visit down into the ruins of the Civil War-era New Manchester Mill alongside the lovely rapids of Sweetwater Creek (up to class IV) Pre-registration is needed as space will be limited to 9 and social distancing will be required.

The tectonic events that forced the rock units to be faulted and folded will also be discussed. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes are required. Meet in front of the Visitors Center.
