Just 35 miles north of downtown Atlanta, Acworth stays true to its small-town roots and storied past while also keeping up with the changing times. The town provides a peaceful getaway for anyone looking to leave the big-city noise behind for a few days. This quaint hamlet affectionately known the Lake City due to is location between Lake Acworth and Allatoona, caters to everyone’s interests. Whether it’s shopping and dining, history, art, activities or nature, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Acworth.

1 Main Street

The dynamic downtown district is known for its amazing shopping and exciting restaurants. Situated along Main Street is a unique collection of boutiques, jewelry and gifts shops, bookstores, art galleries, flowers, spas and antiques. So, whether you’re seeking a gift for someone special or a piece of art for your home, you’re destined to find it.

After your shopping is done, relax and indulge in a culinary experience you won’t soon forget. Downtown Acworth is home of an endless variety of dining options that will make your mouth water, and restaurants like Henry’s Louisiana Grill, Doro’s Italian Restaurant, Fish Thyme and Miss L’s Sandwich Shop offer everything from authentic Cajun cuisine to fresh seafood to homemade sandwiches. And if you want to venture to the town’s Parkside District, give 1885 Grill a try.

2 Historic Walking Tour

If you’re a Southern-history buff, you’ll want to make the walking tour of 30 historical sites the highlight of your visit. The entire Historic Downtown District is on the tour, as Main Street follows the late 1700s Cherokee Indian trading route from New Echota to the Chattahoochee River. The Lemon House served as Gen. William Sherman’s headquarters in June 1864 and as a hospital after the battle of Kennesaw Mountain. Take a look at some of the town’s oldest establishments: Acworth Presbyterian Church (religious structure), Old Mill (commercial structure), Collins Funeral Home (continuing business). Walk through Liberty Hill Cemetery and find the names of families who helped build the town.

Logan Farm Park

Soak up the sunshine and get some exercise at Logan Farm Park, a 120-acre park that includes nature trails, a walking track around a multipurpose recreational field, a fishing pond and three playgrounds.

Only a short walk from the Historic Downtown District, Logan Farm hosts a number of community events, so you could stop at the farmers market on Friday and Saturday mornings and choose from a wide selection of Georgia-grown vegetables, eggs, cheese, fresh-baked bread, pies, cakes, honey and jams. Or enjoy the Concert on the Green — A Juneteenth Celebration in June or the Classic Car Cruise in August.

4 Cauble Park

Located on the north shore of Lake Acworth, Cauble Park is home to a public white-sand beach with a roped-off area for swimming that will give families hours of cool fun. One of northwest Georgia’s finest parks, the 25-acre recreation area offers fishing, a boardwalk, two playgrounds, an open play area, picnic areas and a series of trails.

If you’re visiting Acworth for the Fourth of July, be sure to catch the spectacular fireworks show at the park and check out Veterans Memorial at Patriots Point that honors those who have served in the military.

5 Depot Park

Acworth Depot Park contains an architectural replica of the original railroad depot that, for more than 125 years, brought commerce into the city and returned soldiers home from war. Now called Depot Park History Center, the facility details the city’s past as a railroad town and a mill town through professionally produced videos, oral histories of longtime residents, photographs, story boards and displays of memorabilia, all collected and preserved by the Save Acworth History Foundation.

Additionally, the park is home to the Acworth Caboose, where visitors can learn about the town’s presence on the Dixie Highway through a series of interpretative panels.

6 Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona

Acworth is known as The Lake City for good reason: It’s nestled between two lakes that afford you just about any outdoor activity you could desire in this natural paradise. Lake Acworth and Lake Allatoona offer water-sports enthusiasts a choice of settings while also providing opportunities for camping and picnicking. Nature lovers can find wildlife and beautiful scenery along the shoreline.

Lake Acworth, a 260-acre lake tucked away in Historic Downtown District, is perfect for paddleboarding, kayaking, canoeing and fishing since motorized watercraft are not allowed on the lake. There’s even an award-winning golf course — Cobblestone — on the lake shore for those who enjoy hitting the links.

Water-sports lovers and boaters can set out on Lake Allatoona, a 12,000-acre body situated in Cobb, Bartow and Cherokee counties, for some fishing, riding personal watercraft, skiing, swimming or kayaking. Or if land activities are more your speed, have a picnic, rent a camping spot or take a nature walk along the shore.

7 The Art House

If art is your passion, traipse over to The Art House, home of the nonprofit Acworth Arts Alliance, to see the latest exhibit of watercolors, pastels, acrylics, oils and three-dimensional media created by local artists. The gallery, housed in a circa-1900 building believed to be the location of the town’s earliest-known African American business, rotates new exhibits about every two months and also hosts monthly receptions and various workshops.

8 Red Top Mountain State Park

One of Georgia’s most popular — and most beautiful — state parks is located on Lake Allatoona, just a short drive north of Acworth. If you’re seeking a relaxing site in an idyllic natural setting, Red Top Mountain checks all the boxes.

Settle into a cottage, cabin or the lodge or set up a campsite for your home away from home while you take advantage of all the park has to offer: fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, picnicking and mountain biking. And you would never know this serene setting is only minutes from Interstate 75 or just 37 miles from downtown Atlanta.

Regardless of what you’re seeking for your next getaway, you’ll surely find it in Acworth.
